Resident Reviews

submitted by Stephanie C. - |Recommended: YesThis is a beautiful place to live. — If you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful place to call home, this is it. The residents are very warm but generally keep to themselves. I live between floors and can't hear people above or below me. The grounds are kept very well, and the common areas are lovely too. I rented here because I now work around the block, so the location is perfect. Very happy to call this home.

I appreciate Kyle who is on maintenance team, he is both professional and personable I've experienced quick responses for maintenance requests, always a plus. I also appreciate the investment in the common areas total cleaning and repainting of garage and other major improvements insuring that Brownstone remains a safe and great place to live.

The garage floor is filthy from years of salty grime and dirt, and needs to be vacuumed and power washed with a professional cleaner or machine. I have recently sent numerous maintenance request for this issue. Floor is so dirty and dusty that sweeping is not an option, as that method was used a couple years ago, and the extreme dust set off fire alarm. Most of the painted parking lines and numbers are not visible.

submitted by Kortney K. - |Recommended: NoNot as impressed as I thought I would be the second time around. — I lived at the Brownstone from 2008-2013 and loved it. Then I moved out of the country for a while. I tried other apartments when I moved back to Madison but nothing really compared to living at the Brownstone. I decided to move back but have found that it's not maintained to the level it was 10 years ago. One apartment I initially looked at had black mold in the HVAC closet. I know that there is always wear and tear, but it doesn't seem as clean and kept as it once was. Fire alarm issues going off almost every month are definitely concerning. I have a leak in my ceiling that won't seem to go away. Maintenance was timely in responding to my ceiling leak concern but merely painted over the stain... which returned almost right away. I am honestly surprised. I was so impressed living here initially, but am saddened by the lack of maintenance and updating. It's a beautiful space that needs a lot more attention if it claims to offer luxury apartment living. I hope that management can invest the time and energy to restore some of these great amenities that have gotten lost over the years.
response from property -Kortney, thank you for this feedback and I'm sorry to hear you feel the quality of the building has declined. I hope you saw the recent communication re. the fire alarm issue being solved permanently. We'll follow up with you directly re. the leak in your ceiling and the rest of your concerns.

We’ll probably get another email that says everything’s working fine, it’s probably a pipe issue due to all the snow. They also said they won’t fix the pipe issue because that will require tearing out the pipes from the wall. Anything to save a buck I feel bad for the maintenance person who I guess is the only one who can stop the alarm. We have to wait for them to come for the piercing noise to stop. The fire department doesn’t even come anymore. I have 5 months left on my lease then I’m running. Live anywhere else.
response from property -I apologize for the issue with the fire alarm. We followed every recommended fix that our fire protection and plumbing vendors made. Nothing has worked, so we've begun work to replace the alarm system in its entirety – even the pipes. This replacement will resolve the issue permanently. I understand your frustration and wish we could have found a faster resolution.

The fire alarm system will go off at random times usually in the middle of the night You’ll find this in other reviews here. They haven’t fixed it. After more than 5 YEARS THEY HAVE NOT FIXED IT. I was woken up in the middle of the night again just yesterday to the shrieking fire alarm system. It’s in every bedroom and all throughout the building. The kids get sick of it pretty quick. This has happened multiple times in the past 3 years I’ve been here I will not be staying another year and they just don’t care about you. Why is the alarm going off so much Because they haven’t fixed their crumbling infrastructure since they built this place. The building has a plumbing issue which causes your water to turn poop brown. Yes DARK BROWN COLORED WATER FROM YOUR FAUCET. This happens every time the fire alarm goes off and sometimes randomly . Maintenance and the company know about it. They don’t care about you.
response from property -Jose, I apologize again for the issues with the fire alarm. We don't always have the answers to problems and have to keep trying until we get the right solution. We've been working with our vendors and the Madison Fire Department for some time to isolate exactly why the attic fire protection system continues to sound false alarms, even though we've taken every recommended step to do to stop the problem. Nothing has worked, so we've begun work to replace the alarm system in its entirety – even the pipes. This replacement will resolve the issue permanently. I understand your frustration with this problem, of course, and we know it has gotten unbearable in the past year. I'm sorry we couldn't fix the problem faster.

Complex itself is beautiful and kept clean. My only complaint is that there is very little to no sound isolation between apartments. Be prepared to listen to your neighbors conversations early morning and late at night when everything is quiet.
